Honoring the Rhythm of the Season

🍁Good grief, do I crave fall, y’all. The blissful chill in the air, the leaves showing off their autumn colors, the smell of pumpkin spice everything & finally getting to snuggle in a hoodie after months of sweltering humidity. I enjoy the rhythm of nature and, especially this time of year, I prioritize mindful moments of stillness to feel the Earth move beneath my feet. To observe the constant motion of each moment though it all appears to be slowing down. The rapid momentum of summer has kept me very busy, focused on getting things done, traveling to visit family, enjoying summer music festivals, finding my creative groove, and making the most of the constant flow of energy that comes with long sunlit days.

The last few days, I have felt very called to slow down. The seasons change quickly, as does life itself, and I’ve felt a renewed sense of dedication to allowing myself long stretches of meditation, watching squirrels play, listening to birds sing, sleeping in on a rainy day and being fully present for the ones I love most with no worries about feeding my projects or whittling down my to-do lists. For everything there is a season, and I am personally moving into a season of indulgence.

💫I invite you to do the same; claim those calm, quiet moments to observe your breath, to watch the steam rise from your cup of morning coffee, to sink into "just one more" chapter of your book, to sit by the window and soak up nature’s perfect ASMR on a rainy day. Take the time to really milk the perfection of simple sensual pleasures without feeling harassed by a need to constantly hustle.

The magical and sort of ironic thing that happens in these moments, is that you may find yourself with a sudden burst of inspiration, an irresistible urge to joyfully tackle a project. Reorganize your house to prepare for holiday company, get in your garden and prepare it for it for first frost, batch cook soups to freeze, call a friend to catch up over coffee.

⚖️This is the law of rhythm in action – a time for stillness, a time for action, repeat.

As busy people intent on thriving in modern society, we often forget that it literally defies the laws of the universe to constantly push, make progress, be productive, do more, BE MORE. That’s why I love living in a place where I get to observe the rhythm of nature outside my office window. It reminds me that mother nature herself feels no need to constantly be in any particular season. She simply allows the rhythm of her cycles to happen, and because she allows that rhythm, everything stays in balance and harmony. Without the pressure to BE MORE, we can simply, BE.

Everything slows down and goes dormant in perfect time, so that it may bloom and expand in equally perfect time. Growth happens naturally throughout every season, but resisting the changes that nature demands only serves to zap your energy and spoil your crop.

🌗The rhythm of the season is happening within you, all around you, and it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. Maybe where you are, there is no fall, no winter, no spring, no summer. But within you as a human being, there is most certainly a season for slowing down, a season for hibernation and deep rest, a season for rebirth, and a season for limitless expansion.

Honoring your own internal rhythm means honoring moments of stillness when they call you, it means leaning into physical rest when your body craves recovery, it means slowing down when it just freakin feels RIGHT. And doing so with the absolute knowing that the rhythm will inevitably shift you back into inspired action, energy and motivation at just the right time.

The autumn equinox reminds us that there is a delicate balance, and if we honor it as nature intended, it helps us maximize our long-term growth in a sustainable and enjoyable way. So take the afternoon off, throw on a hoodie, make a cup of apple cinnamon tea, and wander through the woods, boo!
